Vasectomy – World Day

This is an annual global event, launched in 2013. WVD is coordinated by a non-profit organisation headquartered in New York.
The founders of WVD are: Dr Douglas Stein (a urologist who has performed over 35,000 no-scalpel vasectomies) and Jonathan Stack, a documentary filmmaker, Emmy award winner and two-time Oscar nominee.

Vasectomy around the world.

The aim of World Vasectomy Day is to raise awareness and dispel myths about vasectomy. To increase access to this method of contraception, especially in underserved areas. The event is also meant to inspire men to become more engaged partners to women in contraception.

On 7 November 2014, 250 doctors from 30 countries performed over 1,500 vasectomies within 24 hours.

In subsequent years the main celebrations took place in:

• 2015 – Indonesia
• 2017 – Kenya
• 2017 – India – event scheduled for November

Vasectomy – NSVI international charity missions

While World Vasectomy Day aims to popularise vasectomy worldwide, some of the doctors associated with WVD undertake numerous missions to developing countries, performing free vasectomies and teaching vasectomy to local doctors – as part of the sister organisation  No-Scalpel Vasectomy International. Let’s Save Our Planet

How grandiose that sounds!  Doesn’t it?

In Africa it is not uncommon to find families where one man has 7 wives, with 5-7 children by each.
Boats set out daily from crowded coastal villages to find food for hungry children. The fish being caught cannot reproduce fast enough, and increasingly often the father of such a large family (a fisherman) returns home with an empty net.

Low living standards, poverty and lack of education contribute to a population explosion in many developing countries.

One solution may be vasectomy…

You might ask: “But how does that harm us?”

Today’s developing countries are huge consumers of all kinds of plastics and packaging – millions of tonnes of which flow down rivers into seas and oceans as litter, destroying the environment and killing various creatures. Who among us has not seen footage of dead young cormorants or seal pups unable to pass a swallowed plastic bottle cap or a Lego brick.

So – let’s save our planet!

*The money donated will be used entirely to cover the costs of the awareness campaign and under no circumstances will it be used to cover the participation costs of mission members. Each mission participant covers the full cost of their flights, accommodation and meals. Each participant additionally contributes 2,000 dollars towards the mission’s goals.
