WHEN CAN WE GET DOWN TO BUSINESS IN THE BEDROOM?
There is a lot of information online about sexual activity after a vasectomy, often contradictory.
It is always worth discussing this with your doctor.
Much depends on the method used for the procedure. With older, more invasive methods, you may feel sore and consequently have no desire for sex for a long time! The healing process itself matters a great deal – with minimally invasive methods, wounds heal faster, but much depends on the patient’s own physiology. Certainly, if you are healthy, have no ailments and are not on any regular medication, you have a better chance of quick, trouble-free healing – and can therefore get back to action in the bedroom sooner.
Certainly, for a few days after the procedure (we recommend 3 days of abstinence to our patients) it is worth refraining from intercourse, simply so that healing can proceed undisturbed; for the next several days (up to 2 weeks) gentle positions are recommended, as with a pregnant woman, avoiding vigorous movements.
And once the wound has healed, you can give free rein to your emotions – remembering only to use additional contraception until the semen analysis.
We must remember that after a vasectomy, additional protection must be used for 3 months, so that previously produced sperm become incapable of fertilisation, and at the same time 30 ejaculations are needed to clear the natural sperm reserves.
Only after a semen analysis confirming the absence of sperm in the ejaculate can we give up contraception.
